Missional Focus: {Day 1} Richard Stearns, The Hole in Our Gospel

I decided to start this series of 31 Days with the man who is the president of World Vision U.S., Richard Stearns, and his book titled "The Hole in Our Gospel." This book is the inspiration for this 31 Days topic.

"The Hole in Our Gospel" is the story of how Stearns, after some arguing with God, left his high paying job as a CEO in the corporate world to take on the role as President of World Vision U.S.

I could list off the top of my head the books that have impacted me and changed me in the way this book did. Through sharing his journey, Stearns shows exactly what the Gospel is supposed to look like, and how it should truly impact our lives when we realise that we are not just saved so we can go to Heaven, we are saved for a purpose here on earth first.

The following is taken directly from the blurb on the back cover of the book:

"What does God expect of us? Is our faith just about going to church, studying the Bible
and avoiding the most serious sins - or does God expect more? Have we embraced the whole
gospel or a gospel with a hole in it?

Ten years ago, Rich Stearns came face-to-face with that question as he sat in a mud hut in
Rakai, Uganda, listening to the heartbreaking story of an orphaned child. Streans' journey there
took much more than a long flight to Africa. it took answering God's call on his life, a call that
took him out of his corner office at one of America's most prestigious corporations - to walk
with the poorest of poor in our world.

The Hole in Our Gospel is the compelling true story of a corporate CEO who set aside
worldly success for something far more significant, and discovered the full power of the gospel
of Jesus Christ to change his own life. He uses his journey to demonstrate how the
gospel - the whole gospel - was always meant to be a world-changing social revolution, a
 revolution that begins with us."

Do yourself a favour and read it! You won't regret it.

But be warned, you might not be the same when you're finished!
