Missional Focus: {Day 3} Compassion

Today I am sharing a little about Compassion International.

Compassion International is a Christian child sponsorship organisation dedicated to fighting poverty by being Christ centred, child focused and church based in their programs. They achieve this through three programs that they call the Compassion Holistic Child Development Model.

This development model is separated into three categories; Child Survival, Child Sponsorship and Leadership Development.

The Child Survival program offers interventions to expectant mothers, caregivers and children under the age of 3.

Child Sponsorship pairs up a sponsor with one child This sponsorship helps provide education and health care for that child as well as benefiting their whole community. They are also able to hear about the Gospel.

The Leadership Development program is similar to the child sponsorship program in that it pairs one child with one sponsor, and through this can expand their education and go on to become skilled leaders who can have a global impact.

Dave and I are blessed to be able to sponsor a little boy from Peru named Emerson. We're able to send him letters, and cards for his birthday and Christmas. Compassion even allows for sponsors to go and visit their sponsor children and to see the work that Compassion is doing first hand. How cool is that!

Compassion International does much more in communities than just the Child Sponsorship programs. Visit their website for more information.
